Fishery and aquaculture operations are important contributors to the ecological, economic, social and cultural fabric of Canada.
To ensure continued or increased supply of seafood for Canadians or for export to other countries, harvesting and production must be carried out in a manner that does not harm species or their ecosystems. Canada also has a responsibility to ensure that both domestic and imported seafood products are harvested and produced in ways that support social equity and respect human rights.
