I have worked in marine conservation and small scale fisheries research and advocacy since 2007, in Canada and internationally. My conservation efforts focus on ensuring responsible fisheries management for long-term ecological and economic sustainability at the local, national, and international level.
I returned to work at the Ecology Action Centre as the Marine Policy Coordinator in 2016, after my first stint from 2009-2011. In this role, I lead elasmobranch conservation and management, fisheries eco-certifications, and aquaculture policy and regulations in Canada and globally. I bring a social science expertise to SeaChoice, with a focus on the politics, policy, and socio-ecological aspects of marine resource use.

Previous to 2016, I worked in the Philippines with a 30,000 member Filipino confederation of small-scale fishers and farmers focused on organising and empowering the sector to fully participate in policy and resource management. I also led research on sharks and ray fisheries, and worked for many years with Filipino communities that make a living through sustainable seaweed farming.
I have a MSc in Environmental Studies focused on political ecology of marine resources from York University, and a BA in Cultural Anthropology and Human Geography from The University of British Columbia.
