Scott Wallace

I am a marine ecologist working with the David Suzuki Foundation as a Senior Research Scientist. For as long as I can remember, I have had a passionate interest in the animals and ecosystems associated with water. It was my experience as a fisheries observer on a small gillnet fleet in the Bay of Fundy, between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, in the early 1990s that confirmed my suspicions that there was something terribly wrong with how we went about harvesting from the oceans. This experience led to a doctoral degree in resource management, and my current work.

I strive for effective solutions toward sustainable fisheries.

For over 20 years, I have addressed marine conservation issues as a scientist, educator, author, activist, and naturalist. My work at the David Suzuki Foundation is centered on species at risk, healthy oceans, citizen science and fisheries. In my role with the SeaChoice team, I strive for effective solutions toward sustainable fisheries. I also sit on several fishery advisory boards in British Columbia.

I earned a PhD in Resource Management and Environmental Studies from The University of British Columbia.
